Anwendungsprogramm, das als Decoder fungiert (im Unterschied zu einem Hardware-Decoder, bei dem die Funktion fest verdrahtet ist). Der Begriff wurde in feststehender Bedeutung besonders für ein Anwendungsprogramm der Deutschen Bundespost verwendet, das zur Umsetzung von Bildschirmtextsignalen und zur Darstellung der Seiten in dem Online-System Btx (heute T-Online) diente.
